The men and women who I know in law enforcement, and served alongside in the Marines, do their jobs with a professionalism that is nothing like what we’ve seen in far too many fatal shootings from ICE.

Overwhelmingly, the officers I know use their training to make responsible “use of force” decisions. Local and state law enforcement agencies see ICE agents engage in egregious and unnecessary force, and it’s why many have serious concerns around partnering with this federal agency.

Today’s temporary nationwide order for ICE to halt most vehicle stops comes far too many deaths too late. The Department of Homeland Security must prioritize the same training our local public safety servants rely on to keep our communities safe.
