SAGINAW, Mich. (WJRT/ ABC12 NEWS) – State Senator Chedrick Greene brought together survivors, parents and advocates in Saginaw on Saturday to address the impact of gun violence in Michigan’s 35th Senate District.

At the Hoyt Library, the “Power In Purpose” event featured a panel with Moms Demand Action and local leaders, focusing on state policy and the urgent need for gun safety.

Senator Greene said the community plays a critical role in preventing gun violence, especially by securing firearms and protecting those at risk.

“These are problems in our community that we can address,” Greene said. “Not only through legislation, because it takes a ground-up approach to end or stifle gun violence.

Greene noted that comprehensive gun reform is multifaceted in its approach.

“We have to have legislation,” he said. “We have to have advocacy groups like Moms Demand Action, we have to have our general public understanding that this is a problem that they can help solve.”

Moms Demand Action has been advocating for common sense gun laws for 13 years. Today’s conversation centered on what’s at stake for families and survivors as they push for safer communities.
