LiUNA Local 1098, UA Local 85, and Michigan Professional Fire Fighters Endorse Marine Veteran and Fire Captain Chedrick Greene In Crowded Primary

Saginaw, MI: Thursday, rallying with a crowd of 85 labor members, leaders and supporters, U.S. Marine Veteran and Saginaw Fire Captain Chedrick Greene announced three major endorsements for his bid to represent Michigan’s 35th Senate District: UA Local 85 Plumbers, Steamfitters & HVACR Service Techs; LiUNA Local 1098; and the Michigan Professional Fire Fighters Union.

Greene is the first of ten candidates running in the special election for Michigan’s 35th Senate District to publicly announce endorsements from the labor community that powers mid-Michigan.

In appreciation of the endorsements, Greene said, “At a time when our families need better-paying jobs and real relief from soaring costs, I couldn’t be more honored to have this vote of confidence from UA Local 85, LiUNA Local 1098, and the MPFFU. We’ll be union strong together, making sure Lansing delivers for workers on jobs, compensation, safety, apprenticeships, and retirement security.”

Leaders of the labor groups endorsing Greene’s campaign for MI-SD-35 issued the following statements:

Justin Pomerville, Business Manager of UA Local 85: “Chedrick Greene is a public safety servant to his core. He is a patriot and leader who understands what workers face. He’s passionate about doing right by men and women in labor, protecting workers’ rights, and bringing good-paying union jobs here. UA 85 is proud to stand with Chedrick, and we look forward to working with him to deliver wins for mid-Michigan workers.”

Jeff Pilarski, Business Manager/Secretary-Treasurer, LiUNA Local 1098: “LiUNA 1098 doesn’t make any endorsement lightly. This is especially true in our 35th State Senate special election— where the balance of power hinges on who wins this single seat. Chedrick Greene is the pro-labor leader we need representing and fighting for us in Lansing, and we enthusiastically endorse him to be our next State Senator.”

Matt Sahr, President, Michigan Professional Fire Fighters Union: “We need dedicated public servants who respect workers’ value, and leaders who can work across the political spectrum to deliver for our members. Chedrick brings that and more to the table, and that’s why the MPFFU is proud to endorse him in this critical special election.”

These endorsements are critical in a district with one of the highest populations of laborers in the state. They demonstrate growing support for Greene, building on his energizing No Kings speech in Midland and his September 24 campaign launch.

Chedrick Greene is a decorated, 30-year veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve and Fire Captain in his 27th year with the City of Saginaw Fire Department. He is a proud 31-year union member with the leadership and experiences needed to help Lansing work better for families in our Great Lakes Bay region and across Michigan. Greene’s top priorities are to make life more affordable and bring better opportunities to mid-Michigan.

The 35th district state Senate seat anchored by Bay City, Midland, and Saginaw has been vacant since U.S. Rep. Kristen McDonald Rivet (MI-08) resigned as state Senator to begin her first term in Congress. The primary and general special election dates to fill the vacancy are February 3, 2026 and May 5, 2026.
