SD35 candidate made patriotic case for improving communities, not making them training grounds for war
Midland, MI: Saturday afternoon, as 1,500 marched, gathered and watched Midland’s ‘No Kings’ rally, state Senate candidate Chedrick Greene urged mid-Michiganders to stand up for patriotic working people, and stand up to government overreach.
Greene, who launched his campaign for Michigan’s 35th Senate District last month, drew distinctions between his 30 years of experiences as a U.S. Marine and how the current federal administration is misusing and mistreating American military members and citizens.
“This is a five-alarm fire. As a 26-year firefighter, I don’t use that term lightly. And as a Marine deployed to a dozen different nations, I know a few things about training for war. Deploying our military on U.S. soil— treating our communities like war zones and citizens like enemies— is unprecedented, un-American, unconstitutional, unpopular, and unacceptable. It’s not what military men and women sign up for. It’s not what we train for. And it’s not what any true patriot wants to do.”
Noting that he is running to represent a district whose residents value personal freedoms, and are struggling with rising costs, Greene made this direct appeal:
“Whoever you voted for and why, I pray you see how dangerous it is for the government to strip citizens, neighbors, and communities of our Constitutionally-guaranteed rights and dignity. If we don’t protect freedom for some, we will lose it for all…
“Did you want this Administration to send troops into peaceful neighborhoods? Or send better jobs here? Did you want them to build bigger ballrooms at the White House? Or just build better infrastructure here? Did you want them to violate the Constitution, crush us with tariffs, and govern as tyrants? Or did you just want them to lower prices?”
Chedrick Greene is a decorated, 30-year veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve and Fire Captain in his 26th year with the City of Saginaw Fire Department. He is a proud 31-year union member with the leadership and experiences needed to help Lansing work better for families in our Great Lakes Bay region and across Michigan. A lifelong resident of Saginaw, Greene also worked as District Assistant for the 35th Senate District office through most of 2024.
The 35th district state Senate seat anchored by Bay City, Midland, and Saginaw has been vacant since U.S. Rep. Kristen McDonald Rivet (MI-08) resigned as state Senator to begin her first term in Congress. The primary and general special election dates to fill the vacancy are February 3, 2026 and May 5, 2026.
