LANSING, Mich. (Aug. 5, 2026) — Sen. Chedrick Greene (D-Saginaw) applauded today’s announcement that Hemlock Semiconductor will receive $40 million in state funding from the Make It in Michigan Competitiveness Fund. This money will be used to leverage $407 million in private investment and $325 million from the federal CHIPS Incentives Program approved under the Biden administration. This investment will enable the company to construct a new manufacturing facility to increase their production capacity. The project is expected to create 180 new jobs.

I am proud to support investments that strengthen Michigan’s leadership in the global semiconductor supply chain, grow our economy, and help Michiganders build rewarding careers and a strong future for their families.” 

Hemlock Semiconductor is based in Saginaw County and was founded in 1961. They are one of the largest producers of hyper-pure semiconductor-grade polysilicon in the country.
