Greene first in crowded Michigan Senate District 35 primary to be endorsed by a national progressive organization backed by over 1.5 million Americans

Saginaw, MI: U.S. Marine Sergeant Major (Ret.) and Saginaw Fire Captain Chedrick Greene announced that VoteVets has endorsed him in Michigan’s 35th Senate District special election primary contest:

“As a 30-year Marine, Firefighter and union member, I’ve always stepped up to protect what’s important. I am proud to be endorsed by VoteVets, and excited to have the largest progressive organization for veterans and military families stepping up with me at a critical time for Michigan families.

“I fought for Americans’ freedoms and prosperity as a Marine, and VoteVets knows I’m ready to continue that fight as a leader in the Michigan Senate. Together, we’re going to protect hardworking Michiganders from MAGA extremists on the wrong side of every important issue — costs, healthcare, schools, democracy, rights, and more.”

VoteVets’ endorsement, along with Greene’s strong support from labor unions, demonstrates the fast-growing coalition he’s building after a strong September 24 campaign launch and energizing No Kings speech.

Chedrick Greene is a decorated, 30-year veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve and Fire Captain in his 27th year with the City of Saginaw Fire Department. He is a proud 31-year union member with the leadership and experiences needed to help Lansing work better for families in our Great Lakes Bay region and across Michigan. Greene’s top priorities are to make life more affordable, safe, and free in mid-Michigan.

With Michigan’s Senate Majority on the line, the 35th Senate District special election is one of the most important races in the country. The seat, whose district consists of Bay City, Midland, Saginaw, and surrounding townships, has been vacant since U.S. Rep. Kristen McDonald Rivet (MI-08) resigned as state Senator to begin her first term in Congress. The primary and general special election dates to fill the vacancy are February 3, 2026 and May 5, 2026.
