Greene secures backing of Michigan’s largest labor organization representing over one million active and retired members from more than 40 unions.

LANSING, MI – Today, the Michigan AFL-CIO announced its endorsement of Democrat Chedrick Greene in the special election for Michigan’s 35th Senate District.

“Whether in uniform serving our country or on the front lines as a firefighter, Chedrick has spent his entire life running toward danger to protect others. That’s exactly the kind of honorable, trustworthy public servant we need in Lansing during these perilous times,” said Ron BIEBER, president of the Michigan AFL-CIO. “Chedrick is a champion for working families, grounded in decades of lived experience as a union member. With control of the Michigan Senate hanging in the balance, Michigan’s labor movement is all-in to elect him — because we know he’ll always put working people first.”

“As a proud union member, I’m honored to receive the endorsement of the Michigan AFL-CIO. Our labor movement is built on the belief that every family deserves dignity, fair wages, and a voice on the job — and that’s exactly what I’ll fight for every single day,” said Chedrick GREENE, Democratic candidate for Michigan’s 35th Senate District. “Working people are the backbone of our communities, and I’m committed to standing with them, always.”

Chedrick Greene is a decorated U.S. Marine Veteran and fire captain with decades of service to his nation and community. He will bring his experience as a dues-paying union member for 31 years to Lansing — he is a proud member of the International Association of Firefighters Local 102, and a former member of Teamsters Local 406.

The Michigan AFL-CIO, Michigan’s largest labor organization, is a federation representing forty different labor organizations, eighteen different central labor councils, and eight constituency groups representing over 1 million union members and their families.

In addition to the MI AFL-CIO, Greene has scored the backing of LiUNA Local 1098, UA Local 85 Plumbers & Pipefitters, Michigan Professional Firefighters Union, VoteVets, and local leaders from every county in the district.

With Michigan’s Senate Majority on the line, the 35th Senate District special election is one of the most important races in the country. The seat, whose district consists of Bay City, Midland, Saginaw, and surrounding townships, has been vacant since U.S. Rep. Kristen McDonald Rivet (MI-08) resigned as state Senator to begin her first term in Congress. The primary and general special election dates to fill the vacancy are February 3, 2026 and May 5, 2026.
