The largest independent organization representing Michigan’s police officers touts Greene’s decades of public safety work in their endorsement

SAGINAW, Mich. – Today, Chedrick Greene announced that the Michigan Association of Police Organizations has endorsed him in his campaign for Michigan’s 35th State Senate District.

MAPO is the largest independent organization representing Michigan’s Finest. MAPO represents approximately two-thirds of Michigan’s 18,000 certified police officers. It is the first official endorsement by any law enforcement entity for any of the candidates currently vying to represent the mid-Michigan Senate district.

Endorsing the U.S. Marine Veteran and City of Saginaw Fire Captain, the union’s vice president touted Greene’s decades of work in public safety and commitment to keep mid-Michiganders safe.

“Chedrick’s entire adult life has been about service to country and community. MAPO is pleased to endorse his campaign for the Michigan Senate so he can continue his service,” said Nate Johnson, Vice President, Michigan Association of Police Organizations.

“I’ve always worked to protect our kids and community members, and that starts with a strong public safety workforce,” said Fire Captain Chedrick Greene. “MAPO knows I’ll always fight for police officers and all my brothers and sisters in public safety to have the staffing and resources to keep our communities safe and be safe doing their vital jobs. I am honored to have their support.”

MAPO’s coalition of law enforcement and public safety labor groups currently includes:

  • Michigan State Police Troopers Association
  • Michigan Association of Police
  • Police Officers Labor Council
  • Michigan State Police Command Officers Association
  • Detroit Police Lieutenants & Sergeants Association
  • Detroit Police Command Officers Association
  • Detroit Police Officers Association
  • Grand Rapids Police Officers Association
  • Warren Police Officers Association
  • Kalamazoo Public Safety Officers Association
  • Kalamazoo Police Supervisors Association
  • Capitol City Labor Program

Greene has secured 21 labor union endorsements in his bid to bring working-class leadership to Lansing. The diverse coalition of leaders, advocacy groups, and labor unions coming together to elect a pro-worker, pro-education, pro-safety, pro-freedom working-class leader may be found at: https://chedrickgreene.com/endorsements/

While Greene’s Republican opponent, Jason Tunney, does not list any endorsers on his website, Tunney is endorsed by Right to Life Michigan, an extreme organization that only backs candidates who oppose abortion even in cases of rape and incest.

A swing seat in a swing state, this special election outcome will not only determine the balance of power in the state Senate for the rest of this year, but also serve as an early bellwether of the political mood ahead of the November 2026 elections.

Michigan Senate District 35 includes portions of Bay, Midland, and Saginaw counties. The special election is May 5, 2026, with absentee ballots having been cast across the district for weeks, and early in-person voting underway as of April 25.
