ABC12 News MID-MICHIGAN (WJRT) – Democrat Sen. Chedrick Greene of Saginaw was sworn in to the vacant 35th District seat during a brief ceremony in Lansing on Thursday. He won a seven-month term in a special election on May 5.

“It is truly an honor to represent the people of Saginaw, Bay, and Midland counties in the state Senate,” Greene said. “As a Marine and a firefighter, I have built my life around service to my country and my community. My commitment to helping others drove me to pursue elected office, and I am excited to take that to the next level.”

Greene plans to work on finalizing a state budget that prioritizes increased public safety funding and free school meals, lower housing, grocery and health care costs, and support for Michigan’s veterans.

Governor Gretchen Whitmer offered Greene her congratulations:

“Senator Greene has spent his entire career serving others, as a Marine and a fire captain, and now he’ll be a champion for working families in the Michigan legislature,” said Governor Whitmer. “I’m excited to work with Senator Greene and the entire legislature to continue cutting taxes for Michigan families and seniors, providing free school meals that save families $1,000 a year, and lowering the cost of child care. With so much economic chaos coming out of Washington D.C., it has never been more important for Michigan to show how we get stuff done. Let’s get to work.”
